Your August in Quincy: A Resident's Guide to the Month's Best Days

If you already live in Quincy, you don't need another list telling you Wollaston Beach exists. What you need is a calendar. August 2026 is stacked, and the calendar has a shape most residents miss.

The shape is this: Quincy's August splits cleanly between two centers of gravity, and picking the right one on the right day is what separates a good weekend from a wasted one.

The two Quincys of August

Quincy Center, anchored by Hancock-Adams Common and Kilroy Square, runs the civic calendar. Marina Bay runs the waterfront calendar. They rarely compete for the same hours, which means residents who plan around both get roughly twice the month. The Moon Festival and the farmers market pull crowds into the Center. Boardwalk dinners and rooftop drinks pull them east to the water. The trick is knowing which is programmed when.

Here is how August actually unfolds.

Tuesday, August 4: Taste of Quincy on the water

The Quincy Chamber brought back the Taste of Quincy for 2026, and it lands early in the month. It runs from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the Best Western Adams Inn at 29 Hancock Street, right on the water. It is not on the Marina Bay boardwalk. It is on the Neponset side, which residents sometimes forget is also waterfront.

If you have been to it before, you know the format. If you have not, treat it as a low-key way to sample restaurants you have been meaning to try without committing to a full sit-down.

Fridays are for Kilroy Square

The Kilroy Square Farmers Market runs every Friday from 12:00 to 4:00 PM, from June 26 through October 30, at 25 Cottage Avenue. That is a longer season than most South Shore markets, and August is when the produce is at its peak. The programming rotates: yoga and fitness classes, children's storytelling, food trucks, live music.

The market itself closes at 4:00, but Break Rock Brewing operates the adjacent Kilroy Square Beer Garden on a longer schedule:

Thursday and Friday 4–9 PM, Saturday 2–7 PM. After Labor Day the beer garden shifts to Saturday only.

That handoff, from market to beer garden at 4:00 PM on a Friday, is the single best programmed hour in Quincy Center all summer. You buy tomatoes, then you get a beer. The city built this on purpose.

Sunday, August 16: the day the Center takes over

The 39th annual August Moon Festival runs from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Coddington Street in Quincy Center, hosted by Quincy Asian Resources Inc. The festival was voted Best Street Festival by Boston Magazine in 2018 and draws roughly 15,000 people each year, which makes it the largest event of its kind in the Northeast.

For context: 15,000 attendees is about half of Quincy Center's typical daytime footprint compressed into four hours on a few blocks. If you live within walking distance, walk. Quincy Center Station is a five-minute walk from the venue on the Red Line and Commuter Rail, and public parking around the site fills fast.

The programming leans into traditional and modern performances, food trucks, carnival amusements, cultural booths, and a street market. Lion dance early. Bring water. The Sunday historically runs hot.

If you were planning a Marina Bay dinner that night, that is the right call. The Center will be emptying out by 4:00 PM. The boardwalk will absorb the overflow.

The Marina Bay boardwalk, decoded

Marina Bay has more restaurants per linear foot than anywhere else in Quincy, and residents tend to have their two or three regulars and never rotate. August is the month to fix that. Here is what is actually there, along Victory Road:

One useful pattern: the two "chef-driven" anchors on this list, Victory Point and ReelHouse, are the reservation targets. The Chantey, Boardwalk Pizza, and Krabby Joe's absorb the walk-up crowd. Sunset Pier is the newest addition and is where the "let's just get a drink" plan tends to land.

Off the boardwalk proper, Bay Pointe Waterfront sits inside Bay Pointe Marina on the docks. It is the answer when Marina Bay parking is a mess and you still want a table on the water.

Saturdays belong to the Homestead

The Dorothy Quincy Homestead at 34 Butler Road is open Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with the last tour starting at 2:30, running through August 29. Tours are $10 per person on the hour and half hour. It is the kind of place residents drive past for a decade and never enter.

August has one Saturday that is worth putting on the calendar specifically. On Saturday, August 8, Robert Lecce of Pewter Pot Fine Spiced Chocolates is doing 18th-century chocolate making at the Homestead. Visitors sample the chocolate and the hot chocolate, and Lecce's bars are available for purchase. This is not on the standard tour rotation. It is a one-day thing.

If you have kids and you have been looking for a reason to justify the Homestead as more than a drive-by, August 8 is the reason.

The quieter stuff residents forget

A few things sit in the background of August in Quincy that do not make the event calendar but still shape the month.

Squantum Point Park has an 850-space parking lot that is open seven days a week and free, with no overnight parking. It is also where the Marina Bay Ferry launches, which is the fastest way to get from Quincy to Boston without touching the Red Line. If your out-of-town guests want the "ride the boat into Boston" experience, that is the ferry.

Wollaston Beach is the walk when Marina Bay feels overprogrammed. It works best in the last hour before sunset when the tide is out and the flats catch the light.

The Thomas Crane Public Library on Washington Street runs a first-Tuesday-of-the-month board game night from 7 to 8 PM at the Main Library. August's featured game is Just One. It is not a headline event. It is the sort of thing residents mean to try and never do.

How to actually use this month

If you only have three August dates to spend, the priority order is:

1. Sunday, August 16. August Moon Festival. This is the one non-negotiable. It does not repeat.
2. A Friday, any Friday. Kilroy Square Farmers Market at 12:00, then the Beer Garden at 4:00. The handoff is the point.
3. Saturday, August 8. The Dorothy Quincy Homestead chocolate demonstration, followed by dinner at Marina Bay. That is a full-day Quincy loop that most residents have never assembled.

Everything else is optional. The Taste of Quincy on August 4 is a bonus if you can make a Tuesday work. The boardwalk is there any night. The library board game night is there every first Tuesday.

The point is not that Quincy has a lot going on in August. Every city has a lot going on in August. The point is that Quincy's August has structure. The Center owns the daytime civic calendar. The boardwalk owns the evening. The Homestead and the beach fill the seams. Once you see the shape, the month plans itself.
